Education Crisis in the Philippines

Education

What do you think is the key to having a good quality of life and a stable job? If you thought of education, then you are correct. Education is one of the things that help us in becoming successful in life. It helps us in becoming better people and to have skills that will be useful in life. But what if I told you not all children, especially in the Philippines, have access to education. What if the one thing we all need to thrive in life is not easily accessible as it should be and it is not good as it should be?

The Problems:

One of the reasons that the quality of education in the Philippines is deteriorating is because of the low budget allotment on education. The lack of school materials like textbooks, chairs, and desks, makes it very difficult for children to learn. According to an article by The Diplomat, there are buildings in need of repairs to be used by students in schools. Though they stated that the government will build more, it does not guarantee that it is enough. Furthermore, it is also a concern that the buildings are not-calamity proof, making it harder for students to learn especially during the rainy season.

There is also a huge problem regarding the teachers for the students. Since there is always an increase in the number of students, the teachers sometimes are not enough to teach all students. Furthermore, there is also an ongoing problem regarding their salary. Teachers are not being paid enough and are not provided with enough materials to teach students well.

Though there are actions being taken to solve the ongoing problem on education, the problem will not go anywhere if there is corruption occurring. They may announce a big budget for it, but in the end, some of it always disappear. If the government keeps neglecting the needs and the cry of the people, the Philippines will continue to have poor education and eventually its people will suffer. If a child does not get the necessary education they need, they will experience difficulties in becoming a successful person.
