The Effects of Pollution in the Philippines: What should we do to lessen pollution?

First what is Pollution?

Pollution occurs when our environment is contaminated or contaminated by waste, chemicals, or other hazardous substances. Unfortunately, this occurs as a result of human activity, and these 'pollutants' can harm not only us, but all living things on the planet.

Pollution is one of the problems the Philippines is facing right now. We people have done many things that have caused pollution, like the improper disposal of trash and the excessive usage of fuel-powered vehicles. Because of pollution, there are negative effects that can happen to the environment and to living creatures like us. Because of pollution, the air and water are not clean, there is global warming, and this can cause health problems like lung cancer or respiratory infections. That is why we need to act. Pollution may not be completely gone, but there are ways to reduce pollution and save the planet.

Here are some ways we can do to reduce pollution:

Use Proper Waste Segregation

It is important to do proper waste segregation because separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste helps lessen the impact on landfills. Biodegradable waste can be used as fertilizer for plants, and it is good for the soil. while other non-biodegradable waste can be recycled, like paper, plastic bottles, and glasses.

Use Eco Bags or Paper Bags instead of Plastic Bags

Eco bags are eco-friendly and can be reused many times. And paper bags, which are recyclable and biodegradable, unlike normal plastic bags that are difficult to recycle and will take thousands of years to break down, which is bad for the environment.

Plant trees

Planting trees can help clean the air by absorbing airborne pollutants and carbon dioxide and converting it into oxygen for us to breathe.

Save Energy by turning off electric appliances

Turn off appliances when not in use to save energy and it helps lessen Greenhouse emissions which are the leading causes of Global warming and Climate change.

Drive less and use public transport

Walking, using a bike, or taking public transport instead of driving can reduce the contribution of carbon emissions from vehicles, decrease pollutants, and improve air quality.

Agriculture in the Philippines: Why is it facing its decline?

The agriculture sector took a huge toll due to COVID-19, which led to its collapse. The main reason why it’s in a ruinous state isn’t even because of COVID-19; it's because of what happened during the crisis. It was inevitable that the many employers and politicians handling agriculture in the Philippines would take advantage of the situation. In the event that they had any chance of committing corruption, some pocketed the budget allotted for support in the countries' agriculture sector, others took time embezzling, and if we look at the big picture, they even had the audacity to scheme behind the eyes of the Filipino citizens. All of these led up to now when inflation has plagued our economy and successfully ruined the backbone of the country, which is the agriculture sector of the Philippines.
