Cybersecurity: Why is it important and what should you do to prevent threats from happening?

In this day and age, having access to the Internet is a must for communicating and getting information about everything. Everything from cooking tutorials to knowing how to solve a math equation, the Internet has it. You might think to yourself that the Internet is a pretty safe place, but the Internet is a dangerous place. There are all types of crimes that are committed on the Internet like scams, harassment and data breaches. To prevent this, you first need to know what cybersecurity is.

Cybersecurity is the defense against cyberthreats for systems connected to the internet, including hardware, software, and data. Due to many security concerns and cyber-attacks, cybersecurity is crucial. Many businesses create software for data protection. The data is shielded by this software. Cybersecurity is crucial since it protects not only our systems from virus attacks but also helps to secure information.

So how do you prevent cyberthreats from happening to you?

Here are some tips on preventing cyberthreats:

1.  Never share your personal information anywhere

Personal information like address, phone numbers, credit card numbers and such should never be shared online. You should always be aware on what you post online as it might be used to steal your data or potentially harm you. Make sure the things you post online doesn’t have personal information that is important to you so that you can stay safe from hackers.

2. Make sure that the website you’re visiting is secure

A secure URL should always begin with “https” instead of “http” as the “s” in “https” indicates that the website is secure. Though even if the website has “https” on its website you should also double check what you click on websites as some contain malicious programs such as malware and virus.

3. Install an antivirus software on your device

An antivirus software protects you from malicious programs. It’s like guard that doesn’t let anyone suspicious through the gate. It might not prevent you from getting malicious programs entirely but its better to have a prevention measure than nothing.

4. Backup your data

We are always at risk of data breaches so backupping your data is important. Creating a backup helps you restore your data if a hardware failure or a virus attack occurs. Backupping your data is most commonly done using cloud storage as it is more reliable and easier to access but there are other ways on how you can backup your data.

5. Create more complex passwords on your account

A strong and complex password is very important as it protects your accounts from unauthorized access and keeps your sensitive personal information safe. To create a more complex password you need is:

a)  Make it at least 15 characters long.

b) It should contain a good mixture of upper/lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.

c)  And it must not something that is obvious (ex. Birthdate, name of parent or friend, and etc.)

Agriculture in the Philippines: Why is it facing its decline?

The agriculture sector took a huge toll due to COVID-19, which led to its collapse. The main reason why it’s in a ruinous state isn’t even because of COVID-19; it's because of what happened during the crisis. It was inevitable that the many employers and politicians handling agriculture in the Philippines would take advantage of the situation. In the event that they had any chance of committing corruption, some pocketed the budget allotted for support in the countries' agriculture sector, others took time embezzling, and if we look at the big picture, they even had the audacity to scheme behind the eyes of the Filipino citizens. All of these led up to now when inflation has plagued our economy and successfully ruined the backbone of the country, which is the agriculture sector of the Philippines.
